Full Job Description

The NMGH Estates Technical Services Technician will be responsible for calibration and fault finding on a wide range of sterilising/ decontamination equipment and associated plant at the Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington Community and Altrincham Hospital sites and any other premises serviced and maintained by the NMGH Estates Team and Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will join an ever-growing team which is taking on the successful re-building of a huge site based in North Manchester. Further development is on the horizon as we plan a new hospital and wider health and care campus being built as part of 'once-in-a-generation' plans to transform both the hospital and the North Manchester area, creating new jobs, promoting healthy lifestyles, developing skills for the benefit of the local neighbourhood and beyond. The successful candidate will be accountable for all day to day operational aspects of Technical Services and be responsible for undertaking testing, maintenance and repair of all decontamination equipment across the Trust,

  • As appointed Test Person ( Sterilisers )for the Trust and also external contracts;

  • To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking in to account all safety measures to prevent danger ,avoid injury and to prevent damage to equipment;

  • To contribute to engender encouragement within a small team of qualified Test Persons ( sterilisers) in the implementation of planned maintenance and testing schedule in accordance with Legislation and Guidance for decontamination equipment across the Trust and to any contracts current at the time;

  • Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs and conduct validation tests as required by management and work schedules;

  • To liaise with specialist and non-technical personnel at all levels in the delivery of the service;

  • To install and commission decontamination equipment and ensure the appropriate legislative and statutory requirements are met prior to equipment being put into service;

  • To be responsible that a high standard of workmanship and a high degree of accuracy is maintained by ensuring that test equipment is calibrated and validated to statutory requirements;

  • To be responsible for ensuring that all decontamination equipment is subject to a documentary scheme of periodic testing at yearly ,quarterly ,weekly and daily frequencies as defined in the (CFPP) 01-01 Part A;

  • Observe other statutory requirements in particular, but not limited to:- Health and Safety, Electricity at Work Regulations, Asbestos, Legionella, COSHH Regulations
