Full Job Description

Cedars Retirement village based in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire is on the lookout for an Estates Operative to work Bank (as and when required) and cover work whilst staff members are off for holiday etc.

You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the outdoor spaces of the retirement village, ensuring they remain attractive, safe, and enjoyable for the residents. You will work closely with the management and residents to create and maintain a beautiful and tranquil environment that promotes well-being and a sense of community.

Your responsibilities will include performing routine maintenance tasks, addressing residents' service requests, and assisting in various projects to create a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing living space

Responsibilities:

  • Address and resolve residents' maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.

  • Be available for on-call duties in case of emergencies

  • Ensure outdoor furniture and amenities are clean and in good condition.

  • Communicate effectively with residents and staff regarding maintenance schedules, disruptions, and planned activities.

  • Ensure that all open areas of the grounds, including grassed areas, beds, woodlands, boundary fences, roadways, paths, and paved areas are properly maintained to a high standard.

  • To report immediately any defects or faults which may compromise the safety of residents

  • Undertake regular inspections and monthly checks of the Village with the Facilities Manager

  • Painting and Decorating

  • Responsible for treating roads and pathways with salt/grit when necessary during winter months

  • Ensure the structure, fixtures, fittings, and equipment of the Village are properly maintained.

    Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture preferred.


  • Ability to operate gardening equipment and machinery safely and effectively.

  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
