Full Job Description

This is a fixed-term post (one year) in the business unit of OSCB. This post has been set up to establish the engagement of young people and their families to improve services for children and young people within the safeguarding arrangements. The role will also lead on projects within the partnership to drive improvements.

The engagement officer will be responsible in leading how OSCB work with services to meet the government legislation and guidance that relates to safeguarding children in Oxfordshire. If appointed you will lead on engagement work for the partnership using learning from multi-agency quality assurance work, including audit findings, evaluation, and review recommendations. It will include a 'system wide' engagement plan with learning themes, plan of action and time frame for the safeguarding partnership.

You will also work closely with partners - including Oxfordshire's child forums, parent carer forum, health, the voluntary sector and user-led organisations - and with the wider communications, marketing and engagement team to ensure that activity is coordinated and complementary.

We are looking for a professional who has experience of engagement work with young people. You will understand and have knowledge of national and local government, working in partnership regionally and locally. We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about improving the safeguarding systems for children in Oxfordshire. We are seeking an individual who has experience and can lead groups of young people in expressing their voice and opinions to senior leads within the safeguarding children system.

Your experience and knowledge will be rounded and include consultation and engagement, media and a range of communications and marketing methodologies and channels. The role would suit those who can bring energy and enthusiasm to a partnership that is focused on improving the experience of young people and their families in Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board (OSCB) is a partnership that is responsible for ensuring services are delivered, in the right way, at the right time, so that children are safe, and we make a positive difference to their lives and those of their families.

Three key agencies now collectively hold statutory responsibilities for safeguarding, namely Oxfordshire County Council (through Children and Families), Health (through Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board) and Thames Valley Police.

Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 placed a duty on the three agencies to work together and define the local Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements. It also placed a duty on other agencies to co-operate with the new arrangements. The OSCB is independently chaired by Ian Sutherland and works with all agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in Oxfordshire.
