Full Job Description

To join the firm's eDisclosure team working alongside an existing eDisclosure Manager, to ensure that we continue to deliver a streamlined, consistent and quality approach to managing eDisclosure matters in growing practice areas. Our eDisclosure team deals with a variety of projects across the firm including DSARs, litigation and disclosure exercises, public inquiries and regulatory/ other investigations.

Understanding and delivering the functionality of the technical solution offered by our single sourced, white labelled e-disclosure systems to assist in the selection of the most appropriate methods for any particular e-disclosure project that the firm undertakes.

A sound working knowledge is needed of the Civil Procedure Rules and PD57AD, to the extent that they relate to disclosure and e-disclosure. In respect of any other legal and procedural requirements that the firm is required to work within, our fee earners will ensure that guidance is provided as necessary.

Working with Partners, other fee earners and business development colleagues to provide guidance on the planning and execution of all e-disclosure projects and document review exercises that the firm is engaged in, including providing accurate cost estimates for this work. Training the teams in the use and optimisation of the selected review tool, and monitoring and supporting the progress of the eDisclosure projects throughout their lifecycle. Providing input into tender responses, and using expertise to offer solutions to clients as part of business development (as well as on e-disclosure and document review exercises).

Working with Fee Earners to advise clients on appropriate and proportionate methods of filtering and reviewing large amounts of data, and implementing/ supervising the implementation of those instructions once received.

Working with Fee Earners to manage the ongoing eDisclosure projects in the round, both operationally and technically, and on billing issues.

Project management, including supervision and leadership of junior members of the case team and quality control of work allocated. This can include the sourcing and/ or assisting with the sourcing of paralegals, externally, to join an eDisclosure review team.

Acting as the interface between the disclosure team and the review software provider. Sharing best practice and learning across DRG in the delivery of eDisclosure projects.

Providing on-going management and support of our eDisclosure supplier and processes with other leaders.

Providing market analysis for eDisclosure providers and practices, and attending any relevant industry events, to recommend any changes we may wish to consider to our supplier or systems and/ or processes, and to be involved on any tenders and/ or re-tenders that we run.

There will likely be opportunities for involvement in our pitches for new client work.,

  • Working with/ under the direction of Partners and/ or Matter Fee Earners to identify and understand client needs, recommend technical solutions and deliver an effective solution throughout the life of a matter.

  • Working as part of the case team, taking ownership of the technical and operational processes of the eDisclosure review, and supporting the success of the matter in general.

  • Assisting with the set-up of the e-disclosure process – including estimating paralegals required and setting up the required team (and co-ordination with the Practice Operation Manager on these aspects).

  • Assist and enable internal stakeholders to work effectively with our document review software, and with other relevant IT systems for handling case-related information.

  • Providing document and eDisclosure review software expertise.

  • Training & ongoing support during disclosure projects to Partners, Fee Earners and paralegals to ensure that users understand the software and eDisclosure processes, and are assisted in the resolution of relevant issues (e.g. problems with use of our document review software).

  • Spending time understanding legal and evidential issues and working with Partners and Fee Earners managing the litigation and providing the legal advice to the client.

  • Keeping detailed reports of projects undertaken and sharing knowledge with the Gowling WLG team and our eDisclosure software provider in order to improve standards and drive best practice.

  • Creating a good working relationship with the supplier on day-to-day matters; and frequent discussions on the work needed to support the overall success of the system and our work for our clients.

  • To the extent that problems arise, in consultation with others (Partners and/ or Clark Sargent, or others as necessary) to trouble-shoot problems and to liaise with the eDisclosure software provider to resolve any issues.

  • Work with the Partners and Fee Earners to develop, maintain and continuously improve our best practice eDisclosure processes and protocols.

    Experience of conducting litigation and other document reviews using eDiscovery solutions.

  • Public Inquiry and other inquisitorial experience would be desirable but is not essential.

  • Experience of client facing advice on technical and operational aspects of litigation and other projects.

  • Experience of supervision of junior members of staff (useful, not essential).

  • Ability to work on multiple fast-moving matters and to prioritise accordingly.

  • Good understanding of the legal framework of e-disclosure, existing protocols, practices and relevant legal and security standards.

  • Proficiency in several Litigation Support applications (useful, not essential).

  • A sound knowledge of e-disclosure.

  • Financially literate

  • Strong teamwork skills and able to work under own initiative when required.

  • Highly organised and effective at prioritising.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to dealing with multiple projects working to strict (usually Court-imposed) deadlines.

  • Good financial discipline, and ability to ensure good time recording disciplines.
