Full Job Description

We are excited to be seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated ecologist to join our friendly team in Hampshire. With the support of our principal and assistant ecologists, you will work across a range of ecology projects, develop your skills and knowledge, and help us to maintain the reputation and successes we are so proud to have achieved.

  • Providing ecological input on a varied range of projects.

  • Carry out a range of field surveys, including PEAs, ukHabitat surveys and protected species surveys.

  • Collaborating and engaging with stakeholders.

  • Planning and co-ordinating field surveys, analysing and interpreting survey results.

  • Authoring and reviewing ecological reports.

  • Authoring and reviewing applications for Natural England EPSM licences.

    The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience gained in an ecological consultancy environment or similar., Genuine and demonstrable enthusiasm for ecology

  • Qualifying CIEEM membership, or be working towards this

  • Degree in a relevant subject, for example Wildlife and Conservation Management, Conservation Biology and Ecology, Ecology and Environmental Biology

  • At least two year's ecological consultancy experience

  • Experience in undertaking extended phase 1 ecological assessments/ PEAs

  • Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

  • Hold at least one Natural England / Natural Resources Wales protected species class licence

  • Experience of assisting with or producing high quality reports

  • Proven experience of species surveys, including bat surveys (roost and activity), dormouse surveys, badger surveys and reptile surveys

  • Knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, policy and guidance

  • Be a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Sound MS Outlook, Word and Excel skills

  • A full driving licence

  • Legal entitlement to work in the UK


  • Desirable Skills
  • Working towards holding additional Natural England / Natural Resources Wales class licences (bat, great crested newt or hazel dormouse)

  • Experience in using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric

  • Experience in using QGIS

  • Botanical survey skills

  • Named ecologist on an EPSM licence application
