Full Job Description

Roundabout Preschool set within the grounds of Sir Robert Hitcham Primary School, are looking for a new Deputy Manager to join our team. We are proud of our friendly, busy and inclusive preschool. Reports to: Preschool Manager

Main responsibilities:

1. To know and understand the new revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

2. To deliver excellent practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

3. To deputise for the Preschool Manager.

4. To supervise and appraise preschool staff as and when directed.

5. To ensure that the preschool is a safe environment for children, staff, and others. 6. To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child's development.

7. To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Preschool Manager.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times.

2. To deliver an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress and to support other staff in doing so.

3. To help ensure the preschool always meets Ofsted requirements.

4. To undertake designated officer roles as directed.

5. To understand and work to preschool policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints, and emergencies.

6. To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning goals and support others in doing so.

7. To be a key person.

8. To understand and work with the Tapestry Journal. Carry out quality observations and support staff using Tapestry.

9. To carry out administrative duties to ensure records are properly maintained, e.g., daily attendance register, registration forms and necessary details on enrolment.

10. To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the preschool and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.

11. To work in partnership with senior management to share their vision where every child feels valued and has a sense of identity, regardless of background or culture.

12. To attend all relevant training and meetings as required.

13. To attend any training identified by the manager, which will support progression within this role.

14. To keep confidential any information regarding children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of their job.

15. Planning & logistics, running the Preschool routine, managing sufficient ratios and rotas.

16. The Deputy Manager must, at all times ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the preschool, contribute and follow risk assessments, adhering to the current government Guidelines and all setting policies and procedures and become the deputy Safeguarding lead in the setting.

Skills, aptitude, knowledge, and experience

3 years' experience of working in a preschool setting.
Experience of running a setting.
Level 3 qualification or above in Childcare or equivalent.
Relevant experience of the full age ranges from two to five.
Current SENCO training and experience Be a reflective practitioner.
Possess enthusiasm and a strong belief in the importance of early years.
Robust knowledge of the EYFS.
Evidence of partnership working with professionals in relevant agencies and families.
Be committed to working collaboratively in a team.
Always contribute to equal opportunities.
Extensive knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection Procedures.
Experience of managing an Early Years setting and leading a team
The ability to lead and support colleagues to effect change and improve outcomes for children.
Have excellent communication skills with both adults and children.
Engage in continuous updating of own skills and knowledge.
Model good practice and engage in self-reflection.
Be organised, self- disciplined, reliable, conscientious, and honest.
The ability to work skilfully and effectively with others.
Desirable Criteria

Current safeguarding training
Level 2 Paediatric First Aid certificate
Current Food hygiene certificate
EYFS Observation, Assessment and Planning training
Completion of higher level relevant CPD courses
