Full Job Description

As a Dog Trainer for Humberside Police, the post holder will facilitate the selection, training, licensing, and development of dog handlers by conducting an organised and meaningful programme of suitability, continuation, and specialist training.

The post holder must be able to recognise and undertake decision required to correctly prioritise and resource training needs. This will often require prompt decisions for safety reasons when handling police dogs., The provision of a high standard of training to all students to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge and techniques required to act appropriately under any predicament without jeopardising the situation or endangering any other parties concerned.
Cascading the experience, knowledge, and skills to potential or current Police Dog Handlers under assessment and instruction conditions.
Organises and conducts suitability courses for applicants to the Dog Section ensuring that they have the necessary attitude, character, and constitution to become an operational police dog handler.
Undertakes the assessment of new dogs acquired for training purposes to ensure they have the appropriate attitude, character, and constitution to become an operational police dog which may involve care, control, and assessment of dogs for short periods whilst off duty at home address. Undertakes training for dogs with specialist roles,
Liaises with line manager/senior personnel regarding scheduling, nature, and level of training as appropriate.
Acts as an advisor, using specialist knowledge, to Supervision and other agencies as required and support Dog Section Supervision where appropriate.

Relevant training experience including the design and delivery of course and training material.
Previous experience in a teaching or training environment
Previous experience of working and/or training with dogs.
Excellent listening and questioning techniques
Home Office Accredited Police Dog Instructor or willing to work towards
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to communicate at all levels both inside and outside the organisation.
The ability to evaluate training and provide constructive feedback.
Full driving licence.
Flexibility to meet demands of the post which may include working additional hours/weekend working., Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria of at least 3 years continuous residency in the UK to apply for roles with Humberside Police.
Successful candidates will undergo a vetting procedure pre-requisite of employment. (Please note, with holding any information asked by the vetting department, may delay the vetting procedure, or result in your vetting been refused and the offer of employment been withdrawn)
