Full Job Description

  • Work in close collaboration with R&D to ensure all products are tested and Quality checked prior to deployment

  • Ensure control of all product and configuration releases to project and operational fleets is maintained

  • Support to projects and operational fleets for all product upgrades and general releases

  • Requirement gathering and managing customer expectations

  • Documentation and task management - Confluence / JIRA.

  • On site support to field engineering teams as required

  • Ability to diagnose faults and offer solutions across a broad range of IT and communication systems with an emphasis on Linux environments, Virtualisation, Security, and networking

  • Implement and support complex solutions in diverse system environments

  • Configuration management and task automation

  • IP network configuration

  • Where appropriate create documentation for both internal and external use

  • Adhere to all system audit requirements as appropriate

  • Troubleshooting application and system issues

  • Implement automation and logging systems

  • Configure and test equipment to match the project objectives

  • Build test specifications and undertake test cycles to develop standard test plans and document the results


  • Managing the handover to client or in-house support staff including training


  • Troubleshoot and offer 3rd line support to other business divisions and customers

  • Complete tasks and objectives set by other team members on time and within scope to ensure all team is fully supported and departmental goals are reached.

  • Proactively identify and exceed customer expectations to ensure a customer-focused service is always provided.

  • Operate within the guidelines of the role and recognise when it is appropriate to escalate matters within the team to ensure the level of customer service is maintained.

  • Ability to rack and cable physical pieces of equipment in a safe manner

  • All other relevant tasks as detailed by the Line Manager

    We have a great opportunity for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our R&D division in Newcastle within a fast paced technology environment. As our DevOps Engineer, you will design, develop, test and document installation environments for our applications. You will need at least 2+ years of experience, along with a flexible approach to work on projects worldwide.


  • The successful individual is required to posses a deep understanding of Automation toolchains (Puppet / Ansible / Docker) and Linux platforms, plus have knowledge of server and storage infrastructure products, virtualisation technologies, cloud services and networking principles.

    This role will be based from our Newcastle head office with a hybrid working arrangement., Essential
  • RHCA or equivalent

  • Linux Professional Institute or equivalent experience

  • Valid Driving Licence

  • Current Passport

  • Computer Science degree or equivalent

  • CCNA or equivalent or Cisco experience


  • Experience Requirements
  • Linux based systems: Centos / Debian. This is a key skill; we operate our systems entirely in a Linux ecosysyem.

  • Automation: Puppet / Ansible

  • OSPF/BGP routing protocols and routing in a Linux environment

  • IPTables / firewalls

  • Scripting

  • Docker / containerization

  • Hands on experience configuring and troubleshooting networks

  • LAN and VLAN IP planning, preferably with some RF experience

  • Supporting and troubleshooting Linux deployments

  • Centralised identity management

  • Cybersecurity

  • DNS

  • Virtualization (VMware / Xen / ProxMox)


  • Other Essential Requirements:
  • Due to the nature of the role you will require excellent communication and co-ordination skills.

  • You will be expected to function well as both an independent problem solver and a team player.

  • The role will require a flexible individual with a flexible approach to fit the demands of the business.

  • The role will be based from our Newcastle Office but may require you to travel and work at remote sites due to the nature of our project activities.

  • You will be required to fit and install equipment both office and site based, requiring a level of physical activity in a safe and suitable manner.
