Full Job Description

This role reports into the Autonomous Production Unit (APU) Engineering Lead. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone who may have a Mechanical, or Electrical background and is seeking the next step to develop towards an Engineering Lead supervisory role, with the support of a development plan that can be shaped around your current experience.

The role will likely to be split 60/40, with 40% of your time based on tool time and the remaining time developing your management skills supporting the Engineering Lead to deliver the Engineering strategy and also provide cover during holidays, absence.

Supporting the APU Engineering Lead to deliver all aspects of operational performance and actively support the building and management of the APU engineering budget. Use the agreed maintenance work processes to support the Engineering Lead during operations and to create robust gap plans and deliver them within the agreed time frame and budget. Measure and manage engineering performance within the APU on a daily to long term basis.

Core Accountabilities

You will provide the Engineering Lead support in delivering the below:

  • Lead, develop and motivate the engineering team with being engaged and equipped with the skills, knowledge and guidance to deliver maximum efficiency.

  • Provide hands-on engineering support to ensure the enhancement of safety, reliability and production throughput in line with site objectives.

  • Manage the progress of engineering activities, encourage decisions to be made holistically with full value stream in mind, and provide updates as required.

  • Manage the activities of both team members and engineering contractors working within the APU to ensure that quality, environment and health and safety standards are met at all times.

  • Responsible for leading the maintenance processes and completing timely scope challenge activities.

  • Responsible for delivering the APU gap maintenance plan, to plan and budget with support from the APU Leader and the Process Leader in collaboration with the Engineering Support team.

  • Lead both reactive and proactive engineering activities ensuring compliance actions are delivered as well delivering AVI's, duty standby routines, asset condition monitoring as some examples of best practice. Collaborate with the support team Subject matter experts to ensure correct routines and PPM's are in place.

  • Always demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively

  • Deputise for APU Engineering Lead in times of absence

    Engineer Level 3 Apprentice or equivalent trained in mechanical or electrical engineering. With at least 4 years' experience in a relevant industry.

  • NEBOSH safety Certificate preferred but not essential

  • Working knowledge of British Standards for Engineering Plant, Equipment and Practices, or equivalent relevant industry knowledge

  • A detailed understanding of industrial mechanical plant together with significant mechanical or electrical experience gained in a complex manufacturing environment.

  • Proven track record in delivering maintenance improvements with an understanding of reliability centred maintenance principles.

  • Experience of leading, motivating and engaging teams, both directly and indirectly

  • A proven ability to manage complex and conflicting requirements in an industrial environment.

  • High degree of credibility and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the factory and the operations function of the business

  • Experience of managing engineering budgets through an annual cycle.
