Full Job Description

The Deputy Manager for Industry Practices will support the delivery of underwriting results and operational standards across the regions of Chubb Overseas General (COG) for Fire, Casualty, E&O and Cyber across the Industry Practices working hand in hand with the Line of Business stakeholders. They will also drive the strategy and implementation for growing the Industry Practices model for new sectors and delivery across multiple lines of business. The role reports into Head of Middle Market & Industry Practices, COG P&C. The role encompasses the following activities:

Primary Objectives:

  • Develop and define the Practices, underwriting strategies and best practices;

  • Delegation of authority to IP Practice Managers;

  • Work with the Line of Business, P&C Managers and Regional Industry Practice Managers to define the market and agree resourcing model for Industry Practices and support regional strategies for developing new industry practices.

  • Lead product development delivery enabling and helping the COG IP Leaders to focus on ideation and content.

  • Work with the actuaries to manage the IP inputs to all LoB portfolio reviews and manage the bi-annual IP Portfolio Review process and delivery.

  • Manage the underwriting audit and peer review process including active engagement on IP Audits where required.

  • Manage and run COG Industry Practices production reporting.

  • Work in conjunction with Data Analytics Manager, P&C to ensure Coding and Data to support the IP function where required and leading the development of any BRDs to revise current processing.

  • Manage and hold IP Managers to account for Data Integrity on the IP Portfolio - inc. Jarvis clearance, NAIC vs Product management, LoB tracking requirements.

  • Reinsurance - assist Line of Business Management with the successful renewal of the treaties. To include data preparation, working with Ceded Re, Committee presentations and interaction with Reinsurers and Treaty Brokers

  • Development and deployment of technical training frameworks and leading content production for specialist underwriting knowledge. Support the COG IP Leaders in additional L&D activities such as Case Study delivery/development, off the shelf materials and third-party content hosting.

  • Work in conjunction with IP Manager on marketing needs and content delivery.


  • Secondary Objectives:
  • Support the Head of Mid-Market and IP in the development of annual plans and forecasts in conjunction with COG Finance and the regions.

  • Support of the Head of Mid-Market and IP in Internal Stakeholder management communications and delivery.

  • Create Thought Leadership articles for Internal and External distribution.

  • Collaboration with the insurance market, customers and Industry Associations where appropriate


  • Fire, Casualty and E&O / Cyber lines of business authority holder / experience;

  • Knowledge of the Reinsurance market and treaty placement structures;

  • Portfolio Management - planning, forecasting and strategic planning experience;

  • Experience of servicing multinational insurance programmes;

  • Strategic thinker;

  • Underwriting audit experience;

  • Deployment of Training and Development programs;

  • Development and execution of underwriting strategies;

  • Experience on highly service driven roles on the insurance industry - ability to manage workloads, prioritisation and is solution minded.
