Full Job Description

Deputy Manager (Collections Officer)

Salary: £28,000

Contract: Full-time, permanent position, 35 Hours a week.

Funding secured for 2 Years.

Flexible working including weekends and Bank Holidays

Location: Based at both Felixstowe Museum and Landguard Fort.

About the Role - The Post Holder will be pivotal in ensuring the care, conservation and relevance of museum collections, adherence to accreditation standards, efficient duty management, effective volunteer engagement and a positive visitor experience. This Role is based predominantly at the Felixstowe Museum but also Landguard Fort

Key Areas of Responsibility

Duty Management - Oversee day-to-day operations and emergency preparedness. Museum Collections Management - Curatorial oversight, collections access. Museum Accreditation - Accreditation Compliance to Arts Council England Standard. Volunteer Management - Recruitment, coordination, training.

Qualifications and Skills:

● Degree or relevant experience in museum studies, history, or a related field. (Desired)

● Experience in museum collections management and accreditation. (Desired)

● Experience working towards commercial targets and managing budgets. (Desired)

● Experience working and managing within a museum environment. (Desired)

● Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. (Essential)

● Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. (Essential)

● Familiarity with volunteer management best practices. (Essential)

● Experience in cash handling and administration. (Essential)

● Good Understanding of Health and Safety. (Essential)

About the Organisation.

Felixstowe Museum, a former submarine mining station (1878) sits on the Landguard Peninsula between the Fort and the Port. The Museum houses both permanent and temporary collections across 14 display rooms. Collections include Roman, Aeronautical, Naval, Medical, Local and Social history of the area. Both the Museum and Landguard Fort are owned by English Heritage but run by charitable trusts.
