Debt Insight Officer (Council Tax)

We are looking to recruit a Debt Insight Officer post within the Council Tax team. The post is based at Preston City Council, at the Town Hall, Preston. This is a busy and hard-working team, whose responsibility for the collection of Council Tax promptly and efficiently is crucial to the Council. An ability to analyse and interpret complex data to effectively target recovery is required. The Council seeks to recover Council Tax arrears in a socially responsible manner and the successful candidate must be able to identify and assist vulnerable customers.

Duties include:

• Dealing with Council Tax customers, by phone, correspondence and sometimes in person to establish their needs and take appropriate steps to meet those needs



• Analyse data enable targeting of resources to recover Council tax debts effectively.



• Identify vulnerable customers and work with them and other agencies to resolve their debt issues.



• Work as part of a team administering billing, collection, recovery and the application of discounts and reliefs for domestic properties.



• Work in partnership with internal departments and external agencies, including debt advise and charitable organisations.

  Lancaster City Council & Preston City Council operate as a shared service for the provision of revenues and benefit functions, and as part of this provision we administer and collect Council Tax on behalf of both Councils.
