Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dean of Health Sciences within the Faculty. The Dean will provide visionary strategic leadership through the continued development of the School of Health Sciences (HSC) in the design and delivery, of high quality teaching and innovative education approaches in a family of interrelated disciplines; midwifery, nursing (adult, children and young people, mental health), operating department practice, paramedic science, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics and speech and language therapy. The School is a key part of the health ecosystem in the East of England, and also has a growing portfolio of post qualifying continuous professional development and multiprofessional programmes and is accredited to deliver Advanced Practice courses.
The School is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMH). Working with the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor and the Faculty Associate Dean of Research, you will encourage high quality research within the School, building on existing strengths in the three Faculty research centres - metabolic health, lifespan health and population health.
To deliver this leadership in Teaching and Research, the Dean will develop and work effectively with teams within the School and with colleagues with generic responsibilities (including Associate Deans, University Directors and Research Institute Directors and Clinical Leads in partner NHS Trusts). You will promote expansion and drive innovation in curriculum delivery and course design across our programmes. You will maintain networks across the region and beyond working with NHS England workforce, training and education directorate and Integrated Care systems. You will be a member of the FMH Executive and will also contribute to the development and delivery of Faculty strategy, shaping investment decisions and Faculty policy.
This appointment will be at Professorial level and is available from 1 September 2024 on an indefinite basis. The role of Dean is for an initial period of 5 years, renewable for a further term with agreement. The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and appointment will be subject to a criminal record check at Enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
