Full Job Description

You will act as the firm's data steward with responsibility to promote the firm's data standards policies, practices, and procedures to maximize data integrity and to meet requirements under GDPR.
Accountabilities

As the Data Protection Manager, we are seeking skills to include:

  • Keep up to date with DPA regulations, ensuring all departments within the firm are aware and adhere to the principles set out in the Act.

  • Maintain data dictionaries for all database structures to ensure that all data driven systems are aligned (regarding data categorisations etc.) and standardized.

  • Implement audit controls and compliance metrics to reduce data issues and improve data quality within client and contact databases across all data functions.

  • Work with the Learning & Development team to create training material for new data standards and assist in rolling out to the firm.

  • Action all GDPR requests including DSAR and breach notifications.

  • Perform data auditing routines for all areas of the firm to identify non-compliance with standards.

  • Manage the additions/deletions to the Address Book (Roles and Relationships) in particular. Work closely with other business teams to enhance the address book data.

  • Work with Business Systems team to ensure that all data applications remain compliant and continue to add value to the business., We are looking for an experience Data Protection Manager who will support continuous improvement of data validation and integrity in relation to the firm's various databases and assist in the successful execution of data management projects. You will serve as the primary point of contact for data queries in the firm and coordinate and conduct data privacy audits.

    Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and UK data privacy and data protection regulation, and a good understanding of other major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide.

  • Proven experience of MS Office, particularly Excel at advanced level.

  • Experience of influencing outcomes, with interpersonal and negotiating skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and liaise effectively with other internal departments and external contacts.

  • Organised, analytical with problem solving capabilities.

  • Able to work creatively with spreadsheets, databases, and content management systems.

  • Self-motivated, ability to use initiative and provide pro-active support to fee earners.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and liaise effectively with other internal departments and external contacts.

  • Able to work autonomously as well as part of a team, being adaptable and flexible.

    The department

    Birketts LLP is a UK Top 50 law firm, with a very busy Risk & Compliance team who are predominately based in our Ipswich town centre office. The department is now looking for an energetic and dynamic Data Protection Manager to come and work alongside the core members of Risk & Compliance team.
