Full Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to provide advice and specialist expertise throughout the full range of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, although it is recognised that he/she will have a more specific range of skills within Hand and Wrist surgery. The candidate will be expected to provide specialist input with both elective and traumatic hand and wrist conditions, both on an independent basis at Torbay, and in partnership with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Orthoplastic Hand Unit. This joint appointment will allow the delivery of subspecialist care when required, will aid the development of networked care, and will permit the provision of professional and developmental support.
A 10 PA contract is offered. The majority of contracted time will be spent at Torbay Hospital. A proportion of clinical time, to include a weekly MDT, will be spent in conjunction with the Exeter Hand Unit, depending upon the experience and clinical requirements of the successful applicant.

Our Trauma & Orthopaedic Department sits within the Planned Care Delivery Unit and has a proven track record for service innovation, modernisation, and progressive change, such as the development of our day case arthroplasty pathway. There are five HEPA filtered Laminar flow theatres and nearly all trauma and orthopaedic operating lists take place within a clean air theatre. Fracture clinics are held each weekday morning and elective outpatient clinics currently take place at Torbay and Newton Abbot Hospitals. The successful applicant will be working closely with the Torbay Hand Therapy team, Specialist Hand & Wrist Physiotherapists, and Surgical Care Practitioners., You will be joining the organisation at an exciting time.
