Full Job Description

As a Construction Management Apprentice at Collins Construction, your typical day will be a blend of hands-on support duties and learning experiences.

Under the guidance of experienced supervisors, you'll play a vital role in the delivery of our construction projects and support services. Working closely with experienced line management, you'll contribute to various aspects of project execution while pursuing an NVQ in construction.

Your commitment to off-the-job training will be integral to your professional development, complementing your daily responsibilities within Collins' projects and departments.

Taking ownership of tasks and projects outlined by your line manager, you'll navigate through your course curriculum. Each activity will be thoughtfully aligned with both your educational journey and key Collins processes, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

Through active participation and dedication, you'll acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive as a fully operational construction professional within our team.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of the company, sector and wider industry.

  • Understanding and adhering to policies, and government legislation relevant to Collins

  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation particularly Design Information

  • A full understanding of the project scope and design, know the professional team and appreciate site restrictions and the like.

  • Timely completion of tasks and assignments issued by the university and Collins, as well as delivering presentations to staff and other stakeholders.

  • Participating in on and offsite reviews, workshops & meetings Building professional relationships with colleagues and clients.

  • Contribute to the evaluation of business processes and performance, using best practice, identify opportunities for improving efficiency and effectiveness of operational delivery.

  • To undertake and monitor potential risk and opportunity under direct supervision of line management, escalate any emergent risks or issues that are identified for capture and mitigation.

  • Observing statutory health and safety requirements whilst assisting the team with maintaining those within the work area to engender a safe environment for all persons that come affected.

  • At all times consider environmental issues.

  • Note: When you are not attending classroom learning you are expected to attend your workplace position.

    Following successful completion of the Level 4 HNC and work placement, there is scope to progress into a preferred division of the business i.e. Quantity Surveying, Project Management etc. Collins will continue to support the right candidates through further education alongside the role, should the apprentice wish to., Communication skills, IT skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Customer care skills, Problem solving skills, Presentation skills, Administrative skills, Number skills, Analytical skills, Logical, Team working, Creative, Initiative, Non judgemental, Patience, Physical fitness, GCSE or equivalent Mathematics and English (Grade A-C / Grade 4 or above) Essential
    A Level or equivalent Alevel or BTEC National Diploma (Grade DD or PPP) Essential, Apprentices will work in a fluid, fast-paced & exciting environment. The above personal skills are vital to responding to situations in the workplace. Teamwork and cooperation are a must; The ability to work flexibly in a team and contribute to a supportive work environment. Communication; building good relationships is fundamental to the delivery of services. The apprentice will predominantly be site based in central London; however, locations will change according to their department rotation. Travel to and from our Croydon head office will be necessary.
