Full Job Description

Ultimately the Commercial Trainee will be there to support the senior commercial staff in the successful commercial delivery of our projects however the senior commercial staff will be there to support and mentor the successful candidate via day-to-day mentoring and by setting them tasks to undertake which will over time see their responsibilities grow until they can ultimately be responsible for start to finish commercial processes for their own portfolio of projects., Tasks may include but is not limited to.

  • Subcontract Work Orders

  • + Work with the senior commercial staff and operational staff to identify subcontractors relevant to deliver works as required
    + Create subcontract work orders as required for minor scopes or to facilitate payment for unplanned or un-scoped activity (including reinstatement works)
    + Issue work order to subcontractor and operations team
    + Administer variations and changes as advised by operations team or notified by subcontractor
  • Subcontract Payments

  • + Determine monthly subcontract liability
    + Notify Finance of liability against subcontractor, job number and cost centre
    + Action any queries / corrections
    + Review subcontractor Application for payment for commercial compliance
    + Obtain operational approval to pay application
    + Issue payment & pay less notices as required
    + Process payments using our inhouse software packages & upload all supporting documents and approvals
    + Action any queries / corrections
  • Variations and Change Control

  • + Receive variation requests from operational teams
    + Price variations in accordance with contract rates using software systems
    + Submit variations to the customer
    + Chase acceptances from the customer
    + Support and/or undertake fluctuations to customer pricing in line with our terms and conditions
  • Vendor Management

  • + Assist the management teams in obtaining supplier details and setting up on our vendor management system
    + Ensure our vendor management system is kept up to date with details such as insurances and the like
  • Other duties as required to support the commercial team and wider business in delivering the works.

    The role will be subject to a formal training and mentoring plan with the successful candidate undertaking formal studies on a day release basis. Initially these studies will be in the form of a HNC in a relevant field with a view to enrol in a commercial related degree on successful completion of the HNC qualification.
