Full Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager to work closely with the senior management team as well as the Project Managers and Service, Sales, and accounts teams., This position will be based in our Basingstoke office, however from time to time it will be necessary to attend meetings at other locations across the UK. This could be at project sites, client or other group company offices. The majority of travel will be in and around the London area.

  • Formulate and execute the commercial strategy in alignment with business needs.

  • Offer guidance on contractual and risk management matters, review and negotiate T&C's and scope of works within client contracts to accurately reflect quotations.

  • Ensure accurate billing of works, from preparing payment applications to final account negotiation and settlement.

  • Assess variations and support the team in maximising opportunities.

  • Manage all contractual aspects of projects, including payments, variations, notices, extensions of time, claims for loss and expense and dispute resolution.

  • Oversee sub-contractor selection and management, including drafting robust subcontracts, negotiation of T&C's, issuing payment notices, handling payments, and valuation of variations etc.

  • Ensure that the project personnel understand and adhere to contractual obligations and advise them on commercial and contractual matters.

  • Conduct monthly cost & value reporting including project forecasting of revenue, gross profit, overhead and net profit projections in line with project status.

  • Manage cash flow effectively.

  • Identify and report on commercial risks & opportunities.

    We are looking for an experienced and skilled individual who has a strong commercial intuition and a genuine enthusiasm for the construction field. The ideal candidate should be commercially savvy, and pragmatic, with a real eye for detail.


  • Previous experience as a Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor with a strong construction or specialist contractor background (Experience in HVAC Controls/BMS industry helpful)

  • Ideally have a degree in Quantity Surveying or similar.

  • Excellent proficiency in numeric analysis and IT skills with a solid grasp of all Microsoft Office applications

  • Someone confident, dependable and able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.

  • Familiarity with the Construction Act and standard contract forms such as JCT / NEC / MF1.

  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
