Full Job Description

Are you someone who cares about achieving high standards, and helping to make beauty and history accessible to all? Would you like to be part of a dedicated professional team, looking after collections of art and objects, and presenting them to visitors?

If so, you could become a Collections and House Officer at Berrington Hall, bringing to life the history and significance of this much-loved place.

What it's like to work here:Reporting to the Senior Collection and House Officer, you'll play a key role as part of a small conservation and collections team, looking after the mansion and its collections. You'll also work alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, telling stories and sharing knowledge of Berrington's collections and history. At Berrington the house team is part of a larger property and portfolio team, who work together to provide high quality visitor experiences across Herefordshire. No two days are ever the same, one day you might be cleaning a precious piece of collection in the mansion and the next you might be helping to park cars in the car park., What you'll be doing:As the Collection and House Officer, you'll perform front of house duties on a rota with other members of the house team. On days when you are front of house, you'll be responsible for making sure there are enough people in the right place to give a consistently enjoyable experience. On these days you'll also be responsible for opening and closing the house.

You'll be responsible for supervising volunteers on a day-to-day basis, making sure we maintain communication and improving their volunteering experience. You'll also be confident in the use of our volunteering systems and help to complete volunteer administration tasks.

Conservation is at the heart of what we do and as Collections and House Officer you'll be responsible for routine conservation and preventative conservation. Working with our Collections Assistants, you'll lead on the planning and implementing of our annual deep cleaning programme and maintain high presentation standards in the mansion. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house.

You'll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that is in it. You'll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors. And you'll be sharing stories about the past with anyone who is interested.
