Full Job Description

· Be capable of learning new techniques whilst following detailed instructions.

· Keep the department clean and tidy.

· Follow company procedures as laid down in the staff handbook.

· Work to the company 6s system.

· Do tasks as instructed by senior operators or team leader.

· Once trained, load and unload material manually or with hoists or cranes, depending on weight and size.

· Assist experienced operators in the safe loading and unloading of tooling.

· Must be willing to work extended hours or shifts as requested.

· Ensure production schedule follow through as allocated by the Team Leader.

· May be required to carry out other duties in other departments as assigned by Lead/Supervisor or Management.

· Responsible for the safe and proper packaging, identifying, and moving of all finished products to the correct location.

· Performs first piece dimensional inspections as well as all subsequent inspections as required by AET quality standards.

· Monitor equipment and request maintenance when required.

· Report any issues that may jeopardize quality standards.

Position Expectation: A Level 3 machinist can demonstrate a clear understanding of engineering drawings and machining symbols. Ability to program, set and operate a CNC machine and use the correct measuring tools for machining and checking finished products. Ability of positioning parts into jigs and fixtures prior to machining. Ability to change CNC settings and tool offsets. Ability to write and edit old and new programs for new jobs. Ability to select the correct tools with the correct speeds and feeds, fixtures, and jigs to suit the job. Produce and check 1st offs to the correct drawing dimensions and standards. Ability to perform minor preventive maintenance and housekeeping responsibilities. Make sure the machine is set and left in a safe condition., · Safety, Quality, Accuracy, Timeliness, Reliability and Thoroughness of work performed.

· Understands health and safety on the shop floor.

· Develops good working relationships with the Team Leader, Supervisor, co-workers, and other employees.

· Develops a working knowledge of the production environment and has ability to respond to change.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Ability to work well as a team member.

· Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures.

· Position requires the ability to operate precision measuring devices such as calipers, square, micrometres, protractors, and tape measures.

· Besides technical knowledge and experience, soft skills are useful for a successful career as a CNC machinist. Some of these skills include:

Communication and Teamwork: A CNC machining process may require effective collaboration in a team of operators, quality inspectors, and programmers. A machinist must effectively communicate any potential machine error, quality control, or production progress with a team. For a successful production run, there should be effective collaboration and communication between stakeholders. Attention to detail: A CNC machinist should have a keen eye for details as most machining work involves machining complex and precise parts. Understanding machine and programming details allow machinists to spot the error before or during machining, preventing material and economic waste.

Working Conditions:

This position works in a production environment with the risk of injury. Must understand and ensure safe working practices. The relevant safety equipment must be worn when working with equipment in the department. This will require the compulsory wearing of hearing protection, vision protection, steel-toed shoes, and other appropriate protective clothing.

This is a physical role with a requirement for occasional bending, lifting, reaching, twisting, and pushing up to 20kgs.
