Full Job Description

You will work on a portfolio of trials under the supervision of Dr Cath Mummery (Head of Clinical Trials, Dementia Research Centre; Chair of NIHR Dementia Translational Research Collaborations; Director of UK Dementia Trials Network). As part of the clinical trials team at the DRC, you will be centrally involved in the continuing conduct of trials assessing the safety and efficacy of disease-modifying therapies in Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia including novel immunotherapies and gene targeting treatments.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience of working in a clinical research environment in cognitive disorder without the requirement to commit to a PhD or MD programme of study. Training in the set-up and running of clinical trials will be provided. In addition to training in a wide range of clinical skills relevant to studies of neurodegeneration and ageing, you will receive clinical training in all aspects of Dementia.

The post is available immediately and is funded by the Neurogenetic Therapies Programme at UCL for 12 months (or to 31 July 2025, whichever is earlier) in the first instance with further funding highly likely.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

Although this role is offered full-time, we would be willing to consider requests to work on a part-time basis (minimum of 18.25 hours per week/0.5 Full Time Equivalent).

You will be a Registered Medical Practitioner permitted to practise in the UK and have completed general medical training to a minimum of ST3 or equivalent. Experience of working with patients with dementia is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate a record of academic and clinical excellence, and an understanding of and experience in Clinical Governance. A high level of consideration and care for patients and research participants, sensitivity and skill navigating interactions with families with complex needs, competency in performing lumbar punctures, and the ability to be meticulous and accurate in all aspects of work are also required. Experience administering neuropsychological tests and with data analysis, and an understanding of clinical trials methodology is desirable.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

The UCL Dementia Research Centre is a hub for clinical research into various forms of dementia. Our work focuses on identifying and understanding the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, and how best to support people with dementia and their families. The role is offered in the range of £43,619 - £67,652 per annum including London Allowance, on the CL, JDPS, or StR scale, dependent on NHS contract and/or stage of clinical training (salary pro rata for part-time appointments).
