Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity within the ENT directorate for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support patients and their families with Head and Neck cancer.
The head and neck clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is a senior cancer nurse who is a core member of the head and neck cancer multi-disciplinary team, who will support patients with a diagnosis of head and neck cancer act as their keyworker from diagnosis throughout their cancer journey.
The clinical nurse specialist will act as a keyworker for patients, working to co-ordinate care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients.
The post holder will support the assessment, planning and implementation of care, including completion of a Holistic Needs Assessment and personalised care plan.
The post holder will undertake outpatient clinicals and specialist nursing procedures and will be accountable for their own professional actions.
The clinical nurse specialist will be expected to provide specialist advice, education and training to other staff and learners as well as patients and their families and will be expected to participate in research and lead upon clinical audit., The post holder will be working as a core member of the head and neck cancer Multidisciplinary Team to facilitate the care of patients with head and neck cancer.
The clinical nurse specialist will meet the patients at the point of diagnosis and will be essential in providing personalised, safe and effective care to patients and their families who are receiving a diagnosis of head and neck cancer. The clinical nurse specialist is pivotal in the coordination of interventions from multiple professionals and agencies.
The post holder will be expected to:
- Undertake a comprehensive Holistic Needs Assessment of patient needs at appropriate points along the cancer pathway
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions to meet patient's needs
- Work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and attend MDT meetings ensuring patients wishes are considered
- Work with other members of the Head and Neck team to facilitate carers to take an active role in care giving
- Provide specialist nursing care and support to patients with Head and Neck cancer and their families/carers across the Organisation to help to manage their condition and symptoms effectively., As a large NHS trust we are committed to enhancing the health of our local population by delivering consistently high standards of care and working closely with local authorities and key partners. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
