Full Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • provide specialist nursing assessment and treatment interventions for the adults with a moderate to severe eating disorder

  • carry a complex caseload as a member of the MDT

  • take a lead in developing the nursing service provision within the community eating disorders service

  • working closely with primary care colleagues and secondary and acute medical services in supporting and managing both the physical and mental health aspects of individuals with eating disorders

  • aim to improve the quality of medical monitoring for people who are severely ill with an eating disorder

  • link closely with GPs, CEDS medical staff, acute hospitals, pathology labs and the wider MDT and support network., To take responsibility for making a significant contribution to the nursing input to CEDS, participating fully in the referral and allocation process, assessments, treatment, risk management, child or vulnerable adult protection and care coordination of service users as well as contributing to case discussions and service-related meetings.

  • Offering consultations and supervision to colleagues and students within CEDS as well as consultation to staff in other wider services.

  • To liaise with a variety of services (including GP's, in-patients' units, CAMHs, ACMHS, enhanced primary care teams, etc.) to ensure close collaboration and smooth transitions and to reduce/minimise in-patient admissions.

  • To monitor physical health risks and offer physical health reviews.

  • To provide leadership and oversight on physical health within CEDS including to monitor physical health risks and offer physical health reviews.

  • To offer flexible outreach in service users' homes to prevent admission and possible disengagement with CEDS.

    If you have had previous experience of working with people with eating disorders, we would absolutely love to hear from you!, First degree/equal qualification in nursing e.g. Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) AND Postgraduate certificate level/practitioner level training in SSCM, MANTRA, CBT, Focal Psychodynamic Therapy or systemic therapy, Masters qualification in relevant area of practice., Experience of working in a range of settings relevant to the post

  • Significant evidence of post - registration experience as a senior nurse.

  • Post graduate clinical and therapeutic qualification related to eating disorders.

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups across the life course presenting problems which reflect the full range of clinical severity, including a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

  • Experience and knowledge of working with Child Protection and serious mental health problems.

  • Experience of teaching and training

  • Experience of peer supervision, supervising colleagues in the multidisciplinary team and consultation in other agency settings

  • Experience and knowledge of working in a multi-ethnic community


  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of therapeutic practice in different cultural contexts.

  • Record of publication in professional journals.

  • Qualification in teaching and training, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

    The post holder's team base will be in Welwyn Garden City but there will be a responsibility for clinical work throughout the county. You are likely to have an area you primarily work in.
