Full Job Description

Dorset Waste Services is looking for a cleaning operative to work at the Crookhill Depot in Weymouth. You will be working as part of a team on the cleaning service. To clean public areas and be responsible for maintaining standards of cleanliness for Dorset Council.
The post will require a B-category driving licence as the role will involve driving vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and may require you to tow a trailer. Responsibility will include daily vehicle checks, including ensuring the vehicle is mechanically operational and roadworthy., We use generic job descriptions and person specifications. You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, make early starts, and be able to work flexible hours. You must be able to take and give instructions and have good communication skills, as you will be dealing with members of the public on a regular basis. This is a physically demanding job.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake duties relating to the manual sweeping, collection, and removal of litter, dirt, and debris, as well as the installation and emptying of litter bins and dog bins. The position provides a good variety of work and the opportunity to train for new skills, including traffic management, working at heights, strimming, hedge cutters, abrasive wheels, and graffiti removal. This position will require weekend working as part of a rota.
The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • a good understanding of health and safety with previous experience working in waste management

  • good local knowledge of the Weymouth & Portland area

  • experience of working to clearly defined schedules within prescribed criteria

  • experience working in a customer-focused focussed environment

  • knowledge and experience within a cleansing role

  • knowledge of relevant standards and techniques

  • working knowledge of driving-related vehicle maintenance

  • good communication skills

  • systematic and well organised

  • ability to work on your own or as part of a team

  • prepared to work in all weather conditions

  • willingness to work out of hours in emergency circumstances
