Full Job Description

We require a support worker/cleaner who has their own transport, is patient and can cook, clean and be a second pair of "Mummy" type hands in the household. The support worker will be responsible for:

  • Cleaning we have 5 WCs and 4 Showers

  • Changing beds (3 each week)

  • Washing, ironing

  • Cooking evening meals or preparing vegetables in readiness for evening meal. Cooking biscuits, cake, porridge, pancakes etc This is a large part of the role as Mother works away.

  • Driving (car essential) adult children to activity or picking them up from activity or to the shops or picking up prescriptions etc

  • Help the teen/adult family to access the community and increase independence skills.

  • Support our young people emotionally by listening, caring about their interests/feelings. They are fairly well behaved but have Autism and their social anxiety is very high. We have 3 girls (aged 26, 22, 17) and 2 boys (aged 19 and 20). The girls are more social and will interact fairly readily with support worker. The boys avoid "stranger" in the home and possibly will not interact with support worker for 6 or more months till they get familiar with the support worker in the home.


  • This post will require you to drive (there is a mileage allowance for taking to activities).

    To encourage the young adults to access activities such as training, exercise class, walking, cycling, cinema, swimming, going to supermarket or library, picking up or taking to train station etc. If their anxiety is preventing them from going out the role will be to support them increasing independent skills such as building confidence and increasing self esteem. Activities such as cooking, changing bed or cleaning. There may be on occasion a time when some of the young people will access an activity in the community together (such as cinema trip) but this isn't the norm for every week. Helping the young people to develop their interests and creativity. There will be very rare times when you may be required to support the young person by attending a medical appointment with them, but this isn't the norm.

    Typical hours of work (open to discuss mutually agreeable time and days) but ideally would be Monday - Friday 2-5pm (preference) or 10am-1pm 5 days per week

    (We can offer more hours than 15 per week for the first month)
