Full Job Description

If you're on the lookout for a new job in the insurance and disrepair space and fancy a challenge, we would love to hear from you! Here at Yorkshire Housing, we're looking for a Claims Officer to join us in our Insurance and Claims team.

There are two key parts to this role - insurance and disrepair. If you have the skills to dig deep into claims and really get to the bottom of a case using your expertise and will only be satisfied when the mystery is solved then read on…

This role is supported by an Insurance and Claims Apprentice.

What we're all about

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as 'just' a housing provider. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and our mission is to make it possible for current and future tenants to have a place they're proud to call home. We're all about the customer and our service doesn't stop once the keys are in the door.

By playing a key part in our Insurance and Claims team, you'll be ensuring our customers have the right knowledge and information they need to be guided through the claims process. Working for Yorkshire Housing and supporting our customers to get the right outcome is super rewarding.

We're a dynamic and innovative housing provider. We've got big growth plans (8,000 more homes in the next 8 years to be exact) and we need the right people in the right roles to make it happen. Are you interested yet?

What you'll be getting up to

  • This may seem obvious but….managing claims! You'll see most claims through end to end with support from the wider team, you'll also be responsible for managing your own caseload

  • You'll manage risk in everything you do, whether this is reputational to Yorkshire Housing or to our customers

  • Keeping an ear to the ground when it comes to potential claims and being proactive in deescalating any issues

  • You'll ensure compliance with GDPR when working without third parities

  • Working collaboratively with the business and our third parties, you'll be the point of contact for all queries for both internal and internal customers and colleges

This role would probably suit someone who has worked in claims management before and has some understanding of legal requirements, or perhaps you have a law background. You may also have had experience of managing complaints.

  • You'll be dealing daily with solicitors so we need someone who can take a firm hand, and has ability to debunk some of the jargon that comes from third parties to ensure our customers and colleagues are kept thoroughly up to date.

Communication is key! As you'll be communicating with various different providers, customers, and internal colleagues we need you to be an excellent communicator at all levels and confident in relationship building.

You'll be required to really dig deep into some cases, their history and both internal and external factors, so this role would suit someone with an analytical mind and a real drive for getting to the bottom of things.

It would be a bonus if you had:

Experience of handling claims for housing disrepair or worked in social housing in a similar role and dealing with claimants solicitors. Also experience on negotiating settlements on third party claims, but again these are a bonus so please submit your application even if you don't tick all the bonus boxes.

In return, we offer a salary of £29,567 per annum for a 35 hour week, 25 days annual leave (rising annually to 30 days) plus Bank Holidays.

We also work (truly) flexibly, and believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go.

But that's not all. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we'll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few.

Our people's health and wellbeing is one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

    So, now you're really interested?

At YH, we're actively building a work environment that's inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting the communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role.
