Full Job Description

The ideal candidate will be experienced and have the necessary skills and ability to prepare and cook nutritionally balanced and delicious meals for children aged 5 and under, including young babies who are weaning and starting out in their food journey.
Food and meal times are an integral part of our nursery day to day and our aim is for them to be social and learning experiences. We are looking for someone who is passionate about food and wants to help children to have the best start on their food journey.
Your role would include managing children's dietary requirements and food safety systems including 'Safer Food Better Business'.
Some of your main duties will include: -

  • To be responsible in conjunction with the Management for planning healthy balanced menus, shopping lists etc

  • To wash-up crockery, cutlery and all equipment used to prepare and serve meals

  • Be clear about the regulation relating to allergies and provide adequate information to parents about the contents of meals provided

  • To be responsible for hygiene and risk assessment within the kitchen area, including all record keeping relevant to the post

  • To be responsible for food safety within the nursery including all safety checks relating to food storage and preparation

  • To maintain an agreed high standard of hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen area including fridge freezers etc.

  • To maintain the healthy food better business manual at all times

  • To inform management of any equipment needing repair

  • To attend relevant training to keep up to date on new legislations

  • To keep up to date with the settings policies and procedures at all times

  • To attend all meetings within the setting which are relevant to the position

    An up to date Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • An awareness of food allergies and regulations

  • Experience and ability to organise, plan and cook nutritionally balanced meals for babies and small children who have varied dietary needs.

  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues including COSHH.


  • You will also have to be DBS checked upon accepting the post.
