Full Job Description

Element has an opportunity for a Chemistry Technician for testing, sample preparation and preparation of test reports.
This will be a Fixed Term Contract for 13 months

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the departments safety performance and awareness, promotes initiatives that drive a culture of safety first

  • Preparing specimens for testing for chemical analysis

  • Testing of samples using techniques such as Combustion, ICP-OES , Spark OES, CLTE and Fusion

  • Ensure the laboratory continues to comply with the requirements of ISO17025, Nadcap and customer requirements

  • Follow instruction from customer specifications and in house procedures under the supervision of Senior Technicians and Chemistry Supervisor

  • The mechanical sample preparation will involve the use of small benchtop band saws, pedestal pillar drill, hacksaw and vice, hand file and linisher in order to remove any sample contamination and ensure that the specimens are suitable for instrumental analysis using Fusion, Combustion and Spark OES techniques

  • The wet chemical analysis laboratory sample preparation will involve use of balance, microwave, hot plate and various other wet chemical analysis equipment with the main purpose of dissolving samples in acid and preparing them for analysis using ICP-OES techniques

  • Be willing to assist in other activities from time to time that may be requested by the department manager to assist in the execution Element Materials Technology annual targets

  • Validation and maintenance of the laboratory equipment

  • Liaise with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and maintain high on time delivery and first time right performance

    Understanding of testing concepts

  • Possess computer skills

  • Self-motivated team playing with excellent organizational skill

  • Good English communication skills: reading, writing, speaking

  • Good maths skills

  • Knowledge and experience of safe operation of testing equipment and operating in an independent / chemistry / consultant laboratory

  • A degree in analytical chemistry or similar would be beneficial
