Full Job Description

As a valued member of our site team, you will work alongside the Estates and Facilities Manager and Maintenance Assistant to provide a clean, safe, and well-maintained school in good order.

You will perform daily checks to ensure the school site is in good repair, well-presented, and ready to be used and enjoyed. We are small school with a supportive staff body where everyone is willing to get involved, as necessary.

We seek someone who will actively be a positive contributor to our friendly and supportive community. Our operational staff are a crucial part of our smooth running of our school and we pride ourselves on our productivity, professionalism and high standard approach in all that we do.

Main Responsibilities & Duties:
· Execute versatile repair and maintenance tasks, both responsive and planned, as required.

· Assist with conducting regular inspections to monitor the condition of all buildings and assets, promptly reporting any issues to the Estates & Facilities Manager.

· Assist in implementing fire safety and health and safety procedures and policies, including checks and testing.

· Be responsible for porterage duties, moving supplies and equipment as needed.

· Set up events and teaching spaces, as required.

· Assist with swimming pool maintenance, as instructed.

· Conduct routine equipment and vehicle checks, reporting issues promptly.

· Potentially, on occasion, drive boys and staff to events and sports fixtures. This may require working outside of the role's normal hours and time in lieu would be provided as appropriate through agreement with the Estates & Facilities Manager.

· Be responsible for the presentation, cleanliness, and safety of all external areas.

· Monitor and escort outside contracting staff to ensure compliance with school policies and procedures.

· Clean the minibus inside and out.

· Attend department training sessions and/or meetings as required.

· Occasional evening shift working, for which a later start time will be agreed.

· Carry out any other task concerned with the successful running of the school.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake any reasonable request from their Line Manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in a maintenance support environment.


  • Experience of working in a school would be preferable but is not essential.


  • Must have held a manual D1 driving license for at least two years (essential).


  • Must be over the age of 21, to meet vehicle insurance requirements (essential).


  • Demonstrate a proficient level of competency in various building crafts for general repairs and developments.


  • Must be committed to the safeguarding of the pupils attending the school. The post requires an Enhanced DBS check.

    This is a part-time position requiring 25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, Monday through Friday.


  • The working hours will generally be between 1:00pm and 6:00pm. Including a 30 min break. Although some flexibility to adjust these working hours may be possible, if required.


  • Salary £14,872 per annum (£11.44 per hour)


  • The individual may be required to work alternative hours/days to attend school events. This will be with prior arrangement and overtime compensation.
