Candle Sampler and Burn Tester

Duties include but not limited to:

Burn testing duties:

• Managing sampling of all product types, including:


- Overseeing production of laboratory samples of current formulations

- Overseeing production of samples for external analysis

- Recording external reports to Orderwise

• Product development including:


- Meeting the product specifications

- Advising any additional safety instructions that should accompany the product

• Carrying out Burn testing:


- In line with current standards

- Record burn times, weights, final wick selections

- Risk assess products are fit for purpose and will be safe and meet standards

- Soot testing in line with standards

- Documenting test results and reporting these where necessary

- Liaising with external test houses

• Updating and Recording product specifications, additionally they are recorded to Orderwise


• Keeping up to date with standards


• General laboratory housekeeping


Candle Sampler duties:

• Create samples as per brief


• Retain file details on wick and mix - paper and electronic copies


• Label Samples for reviews:


a) Fragrance Review - generally made with a BGW (Best Guessed Wick) - this is for the client or business to review the fragrance strength

b) Burn Test - this is for the test label to test the candle for performance and safety

c) Gold Seals - these are for the client or business to approve for bulk production

• Post samples to end customer, ensuring labelled correctly and addressed to the correct person/address


• Update the sales team to process any sample invoices on point of despatch


• Deducting materials used from Orderwise


• Monitoring legislation changes
  
  We are looking for someone who has a passion for candles, with a foundation of physics or chemistry knowledge, to take on the burn testing of our new candles and document the findings. This is an important role in the process of producing new candles.


Requirements:

Interest in candle performance

Ability to observe, deduct & identify candle performance against a given criteria

Ability to collaborate across departments

Experience with excel documentation

A level or equivalent physics/chemistry completed studies

Attributes:

Training:

Burn testing and Candle Sampling training will be provided to the successful candidate.
