Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Buyer to join our sourcing team within Dowty Propellers, based in Gloucester. Reporting to the Commercial Procurement Leader, you will manage dedicated providers according to our sourcing policies with the goal of achieving the best contractual conditions and ensuring internal customer satisfaction.,

  • To convert planned demand into compliant purchase orders in accordance with the production plan. This will include the identification and vetting of suitable suppliers, defining and communicating requirements, analysing responses and negotiating the best commercial positions in terms of cost, terms and conditions.

  • Placing purchase orders to secure delivery in a timely manner and managing risk and any arising tasks, issues or disputes.

  • An advocate for compliant procurement according to GE procurement practices and procedures to execute functional policy/strategy whilst continuously developing personal functional knowledge and skills.

  • To work within agreed thresholds of authority and escalate to the responsible persons where their personal authority is exceeded.

  • Administrative tasks as and when required.

    Proven experience in managing procurements for military platforms.

  • Relevant degree or CIPS qualification and experience in a procurement environment.

  • Aviation experience is strongly preferred.

  • Strong oral, written communication and IT skills.

  • Able to collaborate within a team environment

  • Motivated, self-led and able to take responsibility within defined thresholds of responsibility

  • Inquisitive mind who is prepared to challenge when something is not right or there is a better way of accomplishing it

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills with suppliers and other key stakeholders within Dowty.


  • Desired Characteristics
  • Experience in US / UK government compliance desired but not essential as full training will be given.
