Fabric Engineer

Job purpose

The purpose of the role will be to work with the Hard Service Team, as well as supporting other service streams on the contract, to maintain delivery and quality of service as per our contract with a pro-active approach.

To carry out any duties that are within your capabilities and be willing to assist with any other requirements as directed by your line manager.

The operative will also Support all aspects of the contract for the Mitie Hard Services department on the HSE Buxton site, assisting in the delivery of the maintenance planners and reactive / chargeable works on site for both Mitie and our specialist contactors.

Ensure assistance is given as required in all compliance documentation, auditing tools and files are kept up to date and fit for purpose; and assist with any other contractual requirements as directed by your line manager.

Job objectives and responsibilities

  • To ensure the company Health and Safety policy is adhered to at all times.

  • To carry out Planned Maintenance and reactive works for all fabric related tasks on the Contract, ensuring all PPM checks are completed as per KPIs. Undertake fabric reactive duties as required and instructed.

  • Support for the resident team during normal working hours and outside of normal working hours as required.

  • To carry out building fabric repair tasks as dictated by Facilities team.

  • Administer of water testing regimes and upkeep of the waterlog book.

  • Weekly and monthly tasks such as fire alarm testing etc.

  • Tidy of Mitie area and maintaining high standards at all times, taking ownership of areas.

  • Be available to carry out necessary works outside normal hours with additional remuneration.

  • Complete job admin for works undertaken on time or follow procedure to extend works so as not to fail KPIs.

  • To carry out and assist with furniture moves / builds and office set ups (setting up computers as required).

  • Advise Client of additional works and compile estimates through the correct process. The identification of additional works and implementing on authorisation.

  • Procure materials and equipment to carry out works, basic appliance failure investigation, source and order of parts and repair if possible, through the Manager authorisation.

  • Carry out escorting duties.

  • Carry out Porterage duties.

  • Basic plumbing tasks. Unblocking and treating of toilets/sinks.

  • Carry out Painting and decorating tasks.

  • Repair/replace/patch in carpet tiles and vinyl flooring.

  • Replacement of ceiling tiles.

  • Hanging/fixing various equipment to walls and ceilings as required.

  • Installation of TV and other related IT equipment etc as required.

  • Running of cables.

  • Vehicle maintenance and valeting.

  • Arranging and taking vehicles into the garage for service, MOT and repairs.

  • Scheduling your workload to ensure all works are completed on time and in line with KPIs, or following the correct procedure to extend jobs as required.

  • When required to manage, review or plan in works carried out by contractors, to ensure QSHE standards are met and complied with at all times, carrying out monitoring as necessary.

  • Use and store all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received.


  • To undertake any additional duties in line with capabilities as required.

  • Ability to develop excellent working relationship with both internal and external stakeholders and the On-Site team.

  • Flexible and adaptable in approach as well as solution focussed as workload dictates.

  • Communicates effectively and positively with all key stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates excellent time management to set priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Have the ability to multitask and react positively to changing priorities, as per the nature of this role, and prioritising to meet KPIs.

  • Window based Programmes (PC skills).

  • Literacy and numerical skills.

  • Able to communicate at all levels and building working relationships.


  • Experience Required
  • Proven background in a similar environment will be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of the FM industry is advantageous.

  • Experience in client interaction will be advantageous.

  • Other qualifications and experience to support the role.
