Full Job Description

This is an exciting role that places you at the heart of a fast-paced team within BDUK at a time of increased attention from Number 10, industry, MP's and Ministers. The post will provide the successful applicant with excellent insights into the work of the ministerial team. You will lead on drafting high quality ministerial briefings and correspondence, as well as leading on responding to parliamentary questions. You will be the first port of call for all Ministerial and public queries relating to BDUK activity, and ensure that BDUK is highly regarded by DSIT and Ministers alike.,

  • Drafting and coordinating briefings for Ministers and Senior Officials on behalf of BDUK, in line with ministerial priorities/preferences.

  • Drafting high-quality replies to Ministerial and public correspondence, coordinating with teams across BDUK.

  • Coordinating responses to Parliamentary Questions, managing input from teams across BDUK and managing Senior Leadership sign off.

  • Working closely with Ministerial Private Offices and Parliamentary teams to ensure MPs are notified of BDUK publications and updates.

  • Managing the team's mailboxes and workflow, identifying and assigning work to colleagues, triaging and logging requests as appropriate.

  • Working with the Ministerial and Parliamentary Support Team to ensure the BDUK is meeting its response targets.

  • Working with teams across BDUK to ensure that briefing and correspondence products incorporate the views of a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Providing a leadership role with the wider Briefings and Parliamentary Affairs team, identifying improvements to ways of working with processes and reporting within the wider team.

  • Helping to produce, publish and maintain content on gov.uk and other BDUK digital platforms.

    Excellent writing skills

  • Experience in drafting ministerial briefings and/or responses to parliamentary questions, FOIs and other correspondence

  • Experience or interest in strategic communications, stakeholder relations and/or media relations

  • The ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines

  • Be able to pick up technical subject matter quickly

  • The ability to create and maintain good relationships across teams, directorates and departments

  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to schedule and manage virtual meetings and communications, Seeing the Big Picture
