Full Job Description

The Department of Clinical Chemistry at Sheffield Children's Hospital comprises a team of people who are committed to delivering an efficient, high quality diagnostic service. It is a busy, dynamic and friendly department. We have an excellent reputation as a specialist paediatric laboratory and provide a range of routine and specialist testing. The department comprises Acute Clinical Chemistry, Specialist Metabolic and Tissue Culture and Regional Newborn screening.
We are looking for one person to join the team as a Biomedical Scientist. Candidates must have registration or have achieved the qualifications required for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a "Biomedical Scientist".
Please note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to participate in all aspects of analytical work and adhere to the 'Standards of Proficiency' as defined by the Health and Care Professions Council. Full training will be provided. Good communication and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to produce accurate and precise work.
The department provides a capillary phlebotomy service and the post-holder may be trained in order to assist with provision. Participation in an out-of-hours on-call service, as well as weekend and bank holiday working is essential., South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) is a partnership between the five Acute Trusts within the ICS footprint, hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. By coming together as a single service SYBP will ensure all patients and clinicians across the ICS footprint receive equitable access to high quality, innovative pathology services, providing the best clinical outcomes. The partnership will ensure SYBP improves health outcomes, drives research and innovation, delivers efficiencies and ensures a sustainable workforce, providing job satisfaction and career progression opportunities for all staff.
Blood Sciences
The SYBP Blood Sciences department provides a complete analytical and diagnostic service to inpatients, outpatients, General Practitioners and supports emergency medicine 24/7 across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region and beyond. Services include Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Coagulation and Immunology along with hosting multiple regional reference services.
The successful applicant will be required to work in the Clinical Chemistry department at Sheffield Children's Hospital within SYBP. There may be the requirement to work in other laboratories within SYBP.
