If so, you will be interested in an exciting opportunity to work within the children in care team in Birmingham. An opportunity has arisen for a band 5 nurse to work in the Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers team. The service has been running 3 years. You will work as part of a small team to support the health needs of unaccompanied young people arriving in the country. This is an exciting challenge for someone who is compassionate about meeting the needs of these young vulnerable people., The registered nurse will deliver high quality, holistic, compassionate health care to children and young people (YP) under the direction of a registered nurse.
Within the Children in Care Team the primary purpose of the role is to support the Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children's (UASC) clinic
The registered nurse will focus on assessing the health and planning care and interventions for primarily unaccompanied asylum seeking children but may be asked to support with other clients of the Children in Care team, + To keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patients records for children and families in line with NMC requirements and the Trust's Record Keeping policies and guidelines.
+ To convey information, of a complex nature, to other professionals and to clients with well developed oral communication skills. This will include negotiating, showing empathy and reassurance, to have the ability to gain co-operation of others when needed and overcome barriers to understanding.
+ To make use of appropriate interpreters.
+ Support nursing input into specialist clinic/nurse led clinics.
+ Including:
+ Administering immunisations
+ Venepuncture
+ Urinalysis
+ Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections
+ Referral to allied services i.e. TB clinic
+ Health promotion
