Full Job Description

The Education Department are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Assistant ALN Inclusion Officer to join the existing ALN Team.

The ALN Team manage a caseload of over 1300 pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). This is a Statutory, public-facing team who cater for the educational needs of the City's most vulnerable pupils as well as resolving a range of complex issues on a daily basis, alongside Local Authority (LA), School-based staff and wider stakeholders. This includes pupil specific queries, exclusions, existing and new school placements, delivering of training, provision mapping and development.

The ALN Team is an extremely busy and pressurised one with a statutory responsibility to individual pupils, their families and Schools. The work undertaken is of high risk to the Council. The successful candidate will have experience of working within a pressurised Additional Learning Needs (ALN)) environment with working knowledge of Education Law and regulations. The post-holder will be required to manage a large individual caseload and be the primary contact for clusters of schools. The applicant will be responsible for writing legal documents in the form of Individual Development Plans (IDP's) and conversion to IDP's from previous Statements of SEN (SSEN), which details an individual pupil's needs and the provision required to meet these, which will be subject to at least annual review. The applicant will be required to undertake monitoring of individual pupil's placements and provision, ensuring value for money and assessing their impact and outcomes for pupils placed. The
post-holder will ensure robust monitoring of the team's Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and contribute to the on-going provision development and capacity building of ALN provision across the City. The successful applicant will receive direct line management from the ALN Inclusion Officers and ALN Manager.
