Full Job Description

We recommend that all individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • Undertake clinical duties within the allocated setting.

  • Maintain a high standard of clinical practice ensuring that other assistants do likewise.

  • Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate assessment in appropriate conditions.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, referring to a physiotherapist where appropriate.

  • To attend meetings and clinics with other disciplines as appropriate

  • To help establish and maintain communication flows within the trust and local trust hospitals / health authorities, regarding ongoing care.

  • Assist in the evaluation of new equipment as appropriate.

  • Be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties and to adhere to departmental policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by other assistants through training, teaching and supervision of practice.

  • To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.

  • Ensure a high standard of clinical expertise for the patients under your management, supporting other staff to do likewise.

  • Assist in co-ordination and effective delivery of training to more junior staff members.

  • Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

  • To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.

  • To provide specialist advice to physiotherapy colleagues working within other clinical areas.

  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of the condition.

  • To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent to physiotherapeutic input.

    This full-time job combines gaining 'on the job' experience whilst undertaking the Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship Programme with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). The honours degree programme extends over 3 academic years and involves face to face academic learning whilst working as a Physiotherapy assistant. Following completion of the apprenticeship, candidates are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and become qualified Physiotherapists.

The starting salary of our Physiotherapy Degree Apprentices will be at a Band 3. On completion of the agreed competency package apprentices will be eligible for a Band 4 salary. Eligibility will be reviewed at the time of enrolment onto the apprentice programme and at 6 month intervals until all competencies are complete

    Please note that applicants must be able to evidence attainment of Maths and English GCSE Grade A-C/4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2.

    This post includes all duties associated with the running and delivery of the clinical team in which the post is based, including community and bed based work or out-patient clinic setting with face to face/virtual/telephone appointments.

    The post holder will be provided with a robust induction and ongoing support and training throughout the role both via the physiotherapy service as well as the wider multidisciplinary team. Candidates should be able to demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm for patient care and evidence of previous acute healthcare experience.
