Full Job Description

The Virtual School is a service which offers advice and guidance, supporting early years settings, schools, post-16 and other professionals ensuring children in care, previously in care and children with a social worker, get the very best from their education.

The role of the Virtual School is to raise attainment by:

  • Ensuring children in care are in full time education and that the provision is right for them


  • Monitoring attendance and suspensions


  • Tracking early years settings and school placements


  • Offer training, advice and guidance to those supporting children in care and previously in care


  • Deliver training, liaising and working closely with early years settings, schools and Social Workers re: transition, school moves, funding, SEN


  • Offering support and guidance to carers.


  • Monitoring PEP compliance and quality-checking the progress and attainment of children in care


  • Attend some PEPs where needed. Review all completed PEPs for each locality


  • Liaise across the region to identify best practice and make connections of benefit to our children placed out of county


  • Liaise at a strategic level across Children's Services into High Needs SEN, Corporate Parenting
