As Advanced Visualisation Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in the Data Solutions team within the Computing Division at UKAEA conducts research, development, and support roles covering diverse areas such as cloud computing, high-performance computing, algorithm development, artificial intelligence, advanced visualization, and Exascale technologies. We work at the forefront of engineering and science, ensuring fusion reactors are well understood and engineered, with our research directly informing engineering efforts. We are currently seeking individuals to join our team, focusing on Advanced Visualization techniques. In this role, you'll work on various projects, engaging in software development, data analysis, and supporting users in adopting new technologies, including assisting with compute cluster usage.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team to support development of Advanced visualisation tools and investigate novel approaches to improve visualisation and analytical capabilities for experiments on JET, MAST-U and other fusion devices.

  • Exploit modern tools and methods of visualisation in collaboration with HPC and AI experts.

  • Contribute to reporting results and outreach within and outside the organization.

    Master's degree or equivalent in computational, mathematical, or physical sciences.

  • Proficiency in compiled language (e.g., C++, Fortran, C, Rust) or advanced scripting language (e.g., Julia, R, Python, Swift Parallel Scripting).

  • Strong familiarity with UNIX operating system, particularly the command line.

  • Proficiency in common visualization frameworks like Kitware-Paraview, Omniverse, Blender, or Unity.

  • Experience with visualization-relevant data formats and proficient in data conversion (e.g., VTK, VTU, USD, STEP, STL, HDF5).


  • Desirable Requirements:
  • Ability to travel within the UK and Europe for short periods (1-5 days).

  • Actively participate in internal and external events, including presenting work and supporting users in adopting outputs.
