Full Job Description

This post can be offered as a developmental opportunity to start as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist with progression to Band 7 upon completion of set competencies. This will be achieved through the completion of key core competencies by the end of a 12 month period, and you will be supported to gain in depth experience in complex neuro case management.The ideal candidate will have ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT. This development opportunity will include an individualised competency framework supporting the successful applicant to ensure they have the necessary skills and experience to undertake the role of Advanced Occupational Therapist. The development programme will include a designated senior supervisor for the duration of the programme and relevant additional training courses as per development need.

Deliver advanced Occupational therapy intervention with acute stroke and neurological patients , by close working with all members of the multidisciplinary teams.

Responsible for close/joint working with neuro physiotherapist, delivering seating/upper limb assessments and formulating managements plans and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team with the 24 hours positioning/tone/sitting/splinting management to promote rehabilitation or maintain/prevent/decrease potential for long term disabilities.

Will be working as an advanced autonomous practitioner, professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including provision of patient care, documentation and use of specialist equipment.

Effectively/efficiently and timely establish immediate discharge needs and long-term needs and work closely with internal and external agencies to support discharge planning/flow of patients as per locally established clinical pathways.

Will be responsible for on-going service reviews, audits and implementation of evidence-based practice alongside Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist and Professional and Clinical OT lead.

Will have day-to day team leading responsibilities and provide formal supervision to Band 5/6 occupational therapists and/or therapy assistants/students.
