Full Job Description

The Health, Safety and Environment department is an integral part of RAF Halton, ensuring compliance to Government Legislation and assurance to Head of Establishment/Station Squadron Executives. The Department consists of 1 HEO, 1 EO and 1 AO Grade. The role consists of providing administrative support to the Station Safety, Health and Environment Adviser (SSHEA) and Deputy (DSSHEA) office; to assist with the fulfilment of the Safety, Health and Environmental management system including management of First Aid at Work Training.

The candidate will liaise with RAF Halton Squadrons, Sections, Contractors as well as outside agencies on Safety, Health and Environmental matters including booking audits and follow up appointments, distributing audit reports and management of reports.

Experience of computer programs including SharePoint and Microsoft Excel is highly desirable as the holder will have to input data into spreadsheets. Experience in record keeping is also desirable. Another key role will be managing SharePoint pages as well as the office diaries. The role also includes acting as a minute secretary for Station Health and Safety meetings as required., Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Manage filing

  • Managing office diaries for SSHEA and DSSHEA

  • Managing the audit programme, booking audits and follow up appointments

  • Managing audit reports

  • Data input into databases

  • Answering questions/queries by telephone, Skype, MS Teams, email and in person

  • Managing First Aid at Work training, records and risk assessment

  • Act as minute secretary to meetings, Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.   • The post does not offer relocation expenses.

    External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

    As part of the Better Defence Estate Strategy it was announced that RAF Halton would be closing in 2027. The scope and potential relocation of posts is still to be identified.'

    All new employees to the Civil Service must satisfactorily complete probation before their appointment can be confirmed. The probation will normally last for six months, but can be extended if required.
