Full Job Description

Pembrokeshire Young Carers is a service offering support to children and young people who have a caring role or responsibility. The service provides information about being a Young Carer and offers advice in helping Young Carers on a 1:1 basis and in groups.

As a Young Persons Worker you will also support with activities and events such as bowling, swimming and occasional trips abroad are organised to provide young carers the opportunity for respite.

We have 3 groups throughout Pembrokeshire Young Carers, which are situated in Pembroke, Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and a Young Adult Carers group which moves around the county focusing on activities and age related training.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Our Young Persons Workers providesupport to children, young people and families by agreeing and directly delivering interventions, with appropriate direction, enabling positive and agreed outcomes to be achieved. You will do this by:

  • Supporting children and young people on a 1:1 basis and acting as an advocate.

  • Providing practical quality care, support interventions and a range of activity experiences to children, young people and families.

  • Taking children and young people to and from groups and activities.

  • Ensuring young carers have the space to enjoy their childhood

  • Being alert to child protection and safeguarding issues, ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed

  • Working in partnership with organisations and agencies such as Health and Social Services

    We are looking for an engaging person, who is able to demonstrate great communication skills with children, young people and families whilst committing to their own personal development within the role. The ideal candidate will be able to show:

  • Experience of working with children and young people.

  • An understanding of the issues faced by young carers, with a passion to make a difference to their lives

  • Knowledge of child protection processes, safeguarding and confidentiality

  • The ability to work flexibly including evenings

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Access to a car. This role requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
