Full Job Description

The post holder will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in this clinical field. There is an expectation that a minimum of 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, having clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of patients and providing leadership for clinicians within this clinical area.

The post holder will monitor and improve standards of care through, supervision of practice, clinical audit, identifying quality improvement and research questions, disseminating research findings, national guidelines and promoting their translation into practice, teaching and supporting professional colleagues and the provision of skilled professional leadership. The post holder will contribute to safeguarding and clinical effectiveness within the service by participating in audit and research as part of the MDT in this specialist field.

Main duties of the job

- Provide autonomous leadership, guidance and professional judgement in making challenging patient centred decisions in compliance with their respective code of conduct and within their scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions and omissions at this level of practice. Develops and maintains expertise in skills and competencies, to ensure highest level of precision to maintain patient safety in line with Trust and NMC/HCPC regulatory frameworks

- Autonomously practice in the field of unscheduled care having a developed specialist clinical knowledge, and demonstrate a critical understanding of their broadened level of responsibility and autonomy, alongside the limits of own competence and professional scope of practice

- Use clinical expertise and decision making skills to undertake advanced health assessment and clinical examinations, request relevant diagnostic investigations and make diagnoses and referrals for other specialist treatment using agreed protocols of clinical practice and professional guidelines

- Take responsibility for autonomous clinical decision making for admission and discharge of patients for specific speciality as appropriate for the service. Manage a defined caseload that will focus on patients, including those with complex physical and/or mental health needs.
