Full Job Description

Due to expansion within the group, and a number of frameworks wins which will provide ongoing work opportunities, we are recruiting a range of roles across our Bid function from Trainee Bid Writers, through to Experienced and Senior Bid Writers, based at our Leeds Head Office, reporting to the Group Bid Manager., The Trainee Bid Writer will take on board information from storyboarding sessions to help them structure responses, participating in key review meetings / final document review, and document production.

The Bid Writer will be responsible for developing storyboarding sessions, participating in key review meetings / final document review, content sign-off, and document production.

The Senior Bid Writer plays a leading role in ensuring the effective co-ordination and timely completion of tenders. They are also responsible for the continuous development of high-quality information and case studies for use on future tenders. The Senior Bid Writer will be experienced in leading storyboarding sessions, participating in key review meetings / final document review, content sign-off, and document production. They will also stand in for the Group Bid Manager as and when required.

Role responsibilities

  • To support all divisions winning new work through the pre-qualification and tender process, writing responses to support our tender and commercial proposals.

  • Key support for the Group Bid Manager and Bid Administrator

  • Learning subject matter

  • Writing / editing of responses

  • Understanding business strategies to incorporate them into responses

  • Meeting timescales for delivery of work

  • Maintaining internal content

  • Communicating with colleagues throughout the business to gain information

  • Checking drafts for clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and formatting, and confirming that the response answers the question asked

  • Producing high quality documents and ensuring completed bids/proposals meet the bid specification

  • Excellent time management / prioritisation skills

  • Forensic attention to detail and meticulous proof-reading skills.

  • Strong academic background (degree level) in English Language or equivalent is desirable.

  • Proven skills in sourcing, writing, and editing proposal content within a complex business environment.

  • Excellent written English language and communication skills.

  • A confident individual who is comfortable liaising with all levels of the business to obtain material to support a written response (for instance, obtaining facts, figures, and methodologies).

  • An ambitious personality who is always looking to develop, improve and who takes pride in their work.

  • Excellent timekeeping / ability to meet deadlines, and to work under pressure.

  • Excellent team player, who can also work well independently.

  • Advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office.

  • Experience of co-ordinating / managing and updating a knowledgebase system is desirable.

  • Experience within demolition, asbestos removal, land remediation or passive fire protection sectors would be beneficial, as will experience of public sector tendering within the UK for any service/sector.

  • Trainee positions do not require previous experience, though relevant previous roles or skills will be beneficial.


  • Measure of Success

    Production of error-free, grammatically correct on-time proposal content, high scoring proposals answers against client RFP criteria. Continued development of case studies and company content, support and mentoring of colleagues in the Bid Team.

    £25,000 to £45,000 per annum (dependent on role and experience)
