Full Job Description

We have exciting opportunities within Network Rail High Speed for Telecoms & Control System Engineers.

The Telecoms and Control Systems (TCS) team members are highly skilled system specialists which make them a vital team in maintaining a safe and reliable railway. The team fix and maintain all the Operational Control Systems on NRHS. They are a fundamental team of system engineers available 24/7 to respond to service effecting faults and ensuring that we can run and maintain a safe, reliable railway.

The TCS team fix and maintain the following systems: VCS, EMMIS, RCCS, ITCS, DTN, LAN, GSM-R, Fibre network (FON) , SCADA, RF propagation, LME ,VTS.

The TCS team are responsible for maintaining various equipment including PLC's, switches, and SCADA monitoring equipment,

Some key accountabilities are as follows:

· Assist with investigations into safety related failures by supporting the Signalling & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer (High Speed) and the Assistant Signalling & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer (High Speed).

· Support investigations into asset safety related failures.

· Review allocated system fault files to ensure data is completed and review actions are closed.

· Sign off fault and audit files at an agreed level.

· Review system failures checking that they are reported, classified, and recorded in accordance with Network Rail High Speed Standards.

· Undertake audit of data entry for maintenance and faulting activities. Make recommendations to address anomalies.

· Support the Control & Systems Maintenance, Telecoms Maintenance and Section Managers in demonstrating that wrong side failures are investigated thoroughly and that the required records are maintained.

· Undertake site inspections as directed.

· Assist in monitoring asset performance and reliability.

· Collate Key Performance Measure information and provide management reports as required.

· Carry out Control & Systems maintenance as defined by Network Rail High Speed standards and in line with manufacturer guidelines.

· Assist in the development and delivery of system improvements and assist with the delivery of key projects.

· Assist in the development of others and your own skill base and competence to improve system performance and reliability.

· At least 2 years experience of working in a technical environment and performing fault finding?

· Experience in maintenance management, processes and techniques?

· Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes?

· A detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures?

· Knowledge of operational railway environment?

· Failure/incident management and rectification techniques?

· Knowledge of other functional disciplines?

· Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills?

· HNC/HND qualification in relevant subject or relevant?

Although it isn't essential, it would be helpful if you were an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and held a membership of a professional body - and if you also have project management experience (or a qualification) – even better!

Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).

The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.
