Full Job Description

To start in January 2025, we are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Theology, Philosophy and Religion who is able to develop and inspire our pupils, and who wishes to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an exceptional Teacher of TPR to develop and inspire our pupils and be part of our vibrant School community. In return for your dedication and expertise, you can expect to be highly valued and offered further development and support throughout your career.

You will be required to carry out the general professional duties of a school teacher under the reasonable direction of the Head and to perform such particular duties that from time to time which may reasonably be assigned you by the Head.

THE DEPARTMENT

Theology, Philosophy, and Religion (TPR) is compulsory from First to Third form, at which point the subject becomes optional. In Fourth Form pupils study Christianity and Islam and follow the Edexcel IGCSE curriculum. For Sixth Form we study the OCR syllabus, taking the Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, and Christian Theology papers.

The Department is located in Cloisters, the most historic part of the school. We are on the top floor, overlooking the rooftops of Oundle and the parish church. The department offers a number of trips for junior pupils each year to visit places of interest such as Peterborough Mosque and Walsingham. Overseas trips have been organised to Istanbul, Israel and Grenada. The TPR society hosts an impressive range of external speakers each year.

THE TOWN

Oundle is a historic market town in Northamptonshire, famous for its beautiful Georgian streets and impressive limestone buildings. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School's Stahl theatre. The town has a range of independent shops, coffee houses, pubs and eateries. Encircled by the river Nene, the town is also blessed to be surrounded by beautiful countryside with many picturesque villages nearby.
