Full Job Description

Your role: The Tax Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely submission of all required direct and indirect tax returns for the Automotive Group covering multiple jurisdictions, including transactional data review and reconciliations, as well as supporting the Financial Accounting Manager more generally with periodic and ad-hoc work as appropriate.

The jobholder will be also joining us during a period of development of our ERP system (SAP S4 Hana) they will therefore be expected to play a role in this development, including the integration of a tax engine solution. They will also need to support the wider business in understanding and adhering to new processes.,

  • Responsible for maintaining indirect tax compliance reporting processes, in addition to being responsible for the implementation of appropriate adjustments to reflect external changes introduced by relevant tax authorities i.e., VAT in the digital age ("VIDA") and the associated domestic agendas.

  • Responsible for the complete, accurate and timely preparation and submission of the Group VAT compliance obligations, including VAT returns, Intrastat, and EC Sales Listings, as appropriate, together with supporting analysis for management review.

  • VAT accounting, including review of financial postings by tax code and VAT return to GL reconciliation.

  • Review and validation of sales and purchase invoices on a regular basis from a VAT perspective and reporting back on accuracy and compliance matters.

  • Maintain and update knowledge of country specific VAT laws and regulations and understand their application to the VAT return submissions.

  • Providing assistance with general VAT related queries, including providing internal support to Procurement team with supplier enquiries.

  • Supporting the Group Financial Controller with the introduction and ongoing operation and management of a Tax Engine solution.

  • Providing support with new VAT registration applications across multiple jurisdictions as required.

  • Preparation of key data for annual overseas VAT reclaims as appropriate.

  • Liaising with key stakeholders to ensure efficient and accurate reporting, both within the Automotive Group and with the INEOS Group tax team and/or external advisors as appropriate.

  • Ability to evidence controls over VAT reporting processes.

  • Responsible for the provision of information during both internal and external VAT audits, working with the Group Indirect Tax team and external advisors as appropriate.


  • Direct Tax
  • Collate and finalise Group Tax pack in support of the annual Corporate Income Tax returns and computations.

  • Support with the preparation of R&D tax claims and any other tax incentives as appropriate.


  • General Reporting
  • Assist with the production of annual statutory accounts for Automotive Group.

  • Support the Financial Accounting Manager in month end close activity, including preparation of standard journals and financial data for review.

  • Produce monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all tax accounts.

  • Support the Financial Accounting Manager as required on internal and external reporting requirements, including any Group Audit activity.

    Accounting qualification (fully qualified AAT or ATT, part or fully qualified ACCA/ACA/CIMA, or relevant degree).

  • Experience in the preparation and submission of both UK and overseas VAT compliance submissions, as well as Corporate Tax returns.

  • Experience of working across multiple countries / regions would be preferable.

  • Strong excel and financial systems skills (SAP experience advantageous), as well as strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem solving and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Able to work in a busy team environment and adhere to strict deadlines, as well as being self-motivated and able to prioritise deadlines.

  • Some Automotive industry and/or Manufacturing experience would be desirable but is not essential.
