Full Job Description

The Research Administrator is based in the School Research Administration Team and works closely with the School Research Manager to provide high-level support to the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies. This role is part time (0.6 FTE/21 hrs per week), to be worked over 3 full days. To meet the needs of the School this must include Monday, Wednesday and a third working day which is negotiable. You will be based on campus two days per week one of which must be Wednesday, to support School Research Committee meetings.

What will you be doing?

Key duties include (but not confined to):

  • Supporting the School Research Director, Research Manager, Research Committee, and Research Centres/Centre Assistants.

  • Acting as a first point of contact for enquiries, and as a liaison point for all relevant internal and external contacts, advising colleagues and escalating issues as required.

  • Administering and assisting the development or improvement of processes, e.g. Research Approvals Process, School Research Funds, internal funding panels, grant pipeline, impact data collection, publication reviews.

  • General finance administration.

  • Working to policies and creating supporting guidance and templates.

  • Planning and organising events and communications.

    You have a proven track record in administration.

  • You can demonstrate excellent customer service and are confident communicating and building collaborative relationships with staff and stakeholders at all levels.

  • You are highly organised and methodical with keen attention to detail.

  • You have a flexible, proactive and supportive approach to work.

  • You work well in a team but also are confident to organise your own daily tasks so that you meet your own/ team objectives and deadlines

  • You are enthusiastic about and motivated to support social science research.

  • You are confident using Microsoft Office tools for data analysis, purchasing systems and updating web content.
