We offer a range of learning and development for all employees may you be clinical or non-clinical., Following investment into the Head and Neck team from Newbury Cancer Care we are pleased to advertise a post until the end of March 2025 supporting our SLT team.

This post has now been established for 14 months and is making a significant difference to both our therapists and patients. It ensures that we are able to deliver high quality and timely care to those with a new or historic diagnosis of head and neck cancer and we would love to welcome you to our team to ensure that we are able to continue with that support.

You will be working with a team of 5 SLT's (3.3 WTE) providing both administrative and face to face support to our clients. There is regular supervision and we will support you to complete any learning necessary for the role. If you have never worked in a healthcare environment but love to work with people and be part of a supportive and friendly team then please consider looking into working with us!, This post is primarily based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and will include attendance at outlying MDT clinics at Townlands Hospital in Henley-on Thames.

The role of the support worker is varied and amongst other duties will involve facilitating the day to day running of the Head and Neck Cancer SLT service.

This will include:

  • Supporting the SLT's at the MDT clinic in Henley, liaising with other professionals to ensure the smooth running of the clinic

  • Booking follow up appointments and contacting patients to gather relevant clinical information

  • Ordering equipment for laryngectomy clinic and supporting the smooth running on the day

  • Liaising with MDT to ensure all onward referrals are made

  • Keeping acurate and up to date data for clinic and outpatient activity.

    GCSE level or equivalent

  • Good standard of spoken and written English


  • Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 3 in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support or equivalent

  • CPD portfolio as evidence of attendance at short courses, formal training and experience in addition to NVQ level 3, Basic understanding of the role of an SLT, At least 2 years SLT assistant experience, Able to organise workload and manage time

  • IT skills


  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping

  • Ability to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor
