Full Job Description

  • Our Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship is a practice-based learning programme that combines theory and practice-based learning and development, delivered flexibly around the demands of your workplace. Apprentices will develop new skills and knowledge whilst carrying out real work as part of a team in a social care setting.


  • Through completion of this Apprenticeship, learners will gain:
  • Practice experience and evidence of assessed competency in the workplace

  • New skills and knowledge preparing them to take on more demanding roles within social care delivery

  • A professionally qualifying degree in Social Work

    Successful applicants will commence employment in Walsall Council Adult Social Care and will be based in one of our teams with the opportunity to have contrasting learning experiences in other teams. We are excited to hear from applicants who are passionate about improving outcomes for adults with care and support needs and their carers.

    In their daily work, social workers interact with individuals, families, communities, and a wide range of other professionals and agencies including but not limited to education, health, housing, care service providers, police and probation. Social workers work in teams alongside occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, social care facilitators, mental health support workers and with many others to complete holistic assessments and improve outcomes for adults.

    You will have access to training and engage in practice development sessions that take place within your team. Furthermore, you will be assigned a Practice Educator that will teach, support, and supervise you during your programme. Professional supervision will be provided by your line manager.

    Essential - GCSE or Functional Skills Level 3 in Maths and English; AND

    Level 3 or equivalent e.g. BTEC, Apprenticeship, A levels, HNC
